Himachal Pradesh Boosts Healthcare with Major Medical College Upgrades

The Himachal Pradesh government is making significant strides in strengthening its healthcare system with a major upgrade across six government medical colleges. This ambitious initiative is aimed at enhancing tertiary care services, improving diagnostic capabilities, and ensuring that patients receive quality treatment within the state. In a notable move, several specialized departments are being introduced Himachal Pradesh is taking major strides to upgrade its healthcare infrastructure. Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College in Hamirpur will soon feature specialized units in Nephrology, Neurology, and Gastroenterology. Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Medical College in Mandi is set to launch a dedicated Department of Nuclear Medicine, whereas Dr. Y.S. Parmar Government Medical College in Nahan will introduce a specialized unit for Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion.

To enhance diagnostic services, state-of-the-art 3 Tesla MRI machines are being installed at Hamirpur, Nerchowk, and Tanda. The nearly two-decade-old MRI at IGMC Shimla will also be replaced. Backed by a ₹200 crore investment, this modernization effort includes improvements at Chamiyana Hospital in Shimla and 69 additional health facilities. To address staffing shortages, 118 new medical posts have been approved, and monthly stipends for senior residents and Specialist stipends have seen a substantial hike—now set at ₹1 lakh for residents and tutor specialists, and ₹1.30 lakh for senior residents and super specialists.

This initiative marks a new era in public healthcare, with the promise of accessible, efficient, and modern medical care for all.
