The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Exam is one of the most prestigious and competitive exams in India. To appear for the UPSC CSE 2025, candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria set by the commission. As per the official guidelines, the minimum age to apply is 21 years, and the upper age limit is 32 years for General category candidates. However, age relaxation is applicable for reserved categories—up to 3 years for OBC, and up to 5 years for SC/ST candidates. The number of attempts allowed also varies: General category candidates can attempt the exam 6 times, OBC candidates get 9 attempts, while there is no limit for SC/ST candidates within the age bracket.
In terms of educational qualification, aspirants must hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in any discipline. Final-year students awaiting results can also apply, provided they can submit proof of qualification before the final stage of the exam. Additionally, candidates must be Indian citizens for IAS and IPS posts, while other services allow for citizens of India, Nepal, Bhutan, or Tibetan refugees under certain conditions.
